About the ASCII Table

This ASCII table is a complete reference of all 256 ASCII characters (0-255), including control characters, printable characters, and extended characters. Each entry shows the character, its decimal code point, hexadecimal, binary, and octal representations. For non-printable control characters, the standard abbreviation (such as NUL, TAB, LF) is shown instead of the glyph.

What is ASCII?

ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a character encoding standard originally published in 1963. It defines 128 characters (code points 0-127): 33 non-printable control characters and 95 printable characters including letters, digits, punctuation, and the space. Extended ASCII uses the remaining 128 code points (128-255) for additional symbols, accented letters, and box-drawing characters, though the exact glyphs vary by code page.

Frequently asked questions

Why are some characters shown as names like "NUL" or "LF"? Code points 0-31 are control characters with no printable glyph. The standard abbreviations are displayed instead so the table remains useful.

Does extended ASCII (128-255) look the same everywhere? No. The glyphs for code points 128-255 depend on the code page (e.g. ISO-8859-1, Windows-1252). This table renders them using your browser's default encoding.

Can I copy a character from the table? Yes. Click any cell and the character is copied to your clipboard with a confirmation toast.
